Daniel Shelor grew up in South Western Virginia. He worked with his uncle, Jay Shelor, in Meadows of Dan Virginia, learning the finer arts of carpentry, what it means to "assist" and what it means to "lead." It was here he grew a love for working with his hands which would be the driving force behind his decision to follow the path of a sawyer. Another reason he chose to cut trees for a living may surprise you. It was his love for them. He hated seeing his favorite trees fall down or be cut down and waste away. It was and still is his love for the outdoors that gives him pride in continuing the story of trees. Helping them get from shady forts, to family heirlooms.
One other part of Daniel's life which helped give him the guts he needed to start his own business from scratch was his time in the United States Air Force. In six years of Security Forces and after two years of being a Staff Sergeant he felt the call of the mountains and returned to his home-place and the home-place of his ancestors for the past 8 generations.
